New Process for Updating the Trade Account Owner (TAO) for Existing ACE Portal Accounts

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has recently modernized the application process for trade accounts on the ACE Secure Data Portal (ACE Portal). CBP’s new web form replaces the legacy PDF form. This new web-based form allows for faster processing by CBP.

To update Trade Account Owner (TAO) information for Exporter and Protest Filer accounts, complete the following steps:

  1. Submit a request to CBP via email, on company letterhead, signed by the TAO or a legally authorized company official. The letter should include the following:Company information:EIN # or Protest Filer #Company NamePhysical Address (This address cannot be a PO Box)New Account Owner Information:Full NameDate of BirthTelephone NumberFax NumberEmail AddressReason for change
  2. Submit the letter via email to ACE.Applications@cbp.dhs.gov.

To update Trade Account Owner (TAO) information for all other account types, use the ACE Portal Account Application Web Form.

TAOs can self-manage access for Proxy Trade Account Owners (PTAO) and Trade Account Users (TAU), including access reactivation. Below is an overview of the steps for reactivating account users:

  1. Log in to the ACE Portal as the TAO
  2. Select the “Tools” tab
  3. Select the hyperlinked name of the applicable PTAO/TAU user
  4. Click the “Reactivate” button

TIP: After reactivating a user, direct the user to log in to the ACE Portal to confirm access. For more detailed step-by-step instructions on reactivating PTAO and TAU accounts, review Topic 4: Reactivate and Revoke a User in the ACE Portal User Management reference guide.

For information on how to add one or more sub-accounts to an existing ACE Portal top account, review the Managing an ACE Secure Data Portal Account webpage.
